Our Mission
Our mission is to provide opportunities for people in chronic poverty to transform their lives. Our strategy is to create jobs, stimulate small businesses, and strengthen communities among the poor. Our method is to work through indigenous partner organizations that provide a range of financial services including small business loans, training, and counsel.
Our commitment is motivated by Jesus Christ's call to serve the poor.
Our responsibility to the Opportunity International Network is to contribute to the funding of agreed indigenous partner organisations by building a community of passionate supporters in the Company.
Our Difference
- Opportunity exists to help the poor. Our activities are undertaken for the benefit of the poor. We are not motivated by economic return and therefore offer a unique approach.
- Opportunity provides 'risk capital.' Our funding is provided through donations to Opportunity International Hong Kong to fund innovative and creative ways for Opportunity International China to serve the poorest, most disadvantaged areas and clients.
- Opportunity is a long-term strategic partner. Our support includes funding as well as much-needed technical and operational support to microfinance, livelihood and enterprise development partners.
- Opportunity integrates microfinance with livelihood- and enterprise-development services. Our strategy is to bundle financial services with other enterprise development activities to provide support to poor entrepreneurs and their businesses.
Our Core Values
Opportunity International is motivated by Jesus Christ's call to serve the poor without regard to ethnicity, gender or religious affiliation. We are committed to the following core values:
- Commitment to the poor – We focus our energy and efforts on our clients, their families, and their communities. Their business needs and expectations determine the services we provide and their well-being inspires what we do.
- Respect for our clients and partners – Our respect for one another compels us to fully value and affirm the dignity and uniqueness of each client. This respect is also the foundation for both our relationship with our clients’ communities and our relationship with others involved in our work—donors, creditors, colleagues, and fellow members of the OI Network.
- Integrity – We commit to actively integrating what we believe with what we do. We will do the right thing for the right reasons, whether or not anyone will know.
- Stewardship – We are committed to being good stewards of our own resources and those of our clients, donors, creditors, and colleagues by exercising a thoughtful and cost effective use of the time, skills, and finances we have. We strive for quality and seek to maximize the opportunities we have to fulfill our mission.
- Donors - We honor our donors, upon whom we entirely depend. We account to them according to the highest business standards with openness and integrity.
- Review - We regularly review our performance against our Core Values and seek to improve any deficiencies.
